about

Hello,

My Lineage

My name is Eunice (she/her). My ancestral roots are connected to the Visayas and Mindanao regions of the archipelago now commonly known by the colonial name of the ‘Philippines’. My late maternal ‘Lola’ (grandmother) was a traditional midwife and ‘hilot’ practitioner, well-versed in medicinal herbs and healing bodies. Even in old age, and often without remuneration, Lola felt a strong duty to serve her community. The communities my Lola served gave her the titles of ‘Mananabang’ (midwife) and ‘Manghihilot’ (‘bone-setter’ & massage therapist).

My Work & Values

I have been a facilitator of meditation and postural yoga since 2004, and using yoga practices within a therapeutic context since 2008. My intention in my work is to support physical, emotional and mental wellbeing by offering tools for self-connection. My approach within my yoga facilitation is informed by my study and work experience in the framework of therapeutic yoga, in addition to my training and work experience in clinical settings as a qualified Dance Movement Psychotherapist. Intercultural inclusivity and a trauma-informed ethos are embedded in my work. I have been a faculty member with Yogacampus since 2010 and contribute to panels and discussions that address critical issues within contemporary yoga spaces.

In addition to public work, I facilitate the Movement for Healing programme - established in 2017 - offering specialised yoga to people impacted by domestic abuse and sexual violence. I am also a non-Executive Director for CIC Mamasuze, an arts-based organisation that supports women and children refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants.

My Self-Care

I have been supported and nourished by a multi-dimensional yoga and meditation practice for over 2 decades. In addition to my personal practice, my introspection is anchored in verbal therapy; my joy and self-care is rooted in dance, writing, making, and time in nature. My professional support and accountability is accessed through monthly yoga peer-group supervision and clinical supervision.

I have experienced cultural, social and economic diversity. I am slowly learning to reclaim all parts of my Self.
